2600 youth landed jobs in just 2 months through Hyderabad Police ‘Job Connect’ initiative

Hyderabad: At a time when unemployment and job provision are the burning issues, the Hyderabad City Police is showing the way with its ‘Job Connect’ initiative, which has seen about 2,600 youngsters landing jobs in the last two months.

‘Job Connect’ is an employment van that goes around the city, providing information on job opportunities available and helping job aspirants apply for the same. The Community Policing initiative was launched by the City Police in association with the employment and skill development organization TMI group here on August 3.

“Many firms have come forward offering jobs to aspirants through ‘Job Connect’. In Gopalapuram police station limits alone, about 4,500 aspirants registered, about 850 were placed with various firms,” North Zone DCP B Sumathi said.

Once the registration is done, the applicants will receive information via SMS. “Till now, about 10,000 persons are estimated to have been connected to the programme. Around 2,600 got jobs,” the DCP said.

Interestingly, the inspiration for ‘Job Connect’ came from an initiative of the North Zone police, who had launched a scheme called ‘Cheyutha’. With the project turning out to be successful, City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy asked officials to extend it to all zones.

“We had introduced a similar programme named ‘Cheyutha’ aimed at helping job aspirants and youth in the zone find suitable jobs. It immediately took off and was very successful too. When our chief was informed about it, he liked it and wanted other zones to take it up as well. That was when the idea of the employment van came up. We aimed at providing a platform for job aspirants at their doorstep,” Sumathi said.

Slums and people from the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category were the main beneficiaries and targets as well, with Station House Officers being entrusted with the job of spreading awareness among the youth and job aspirants on the initiative.
