CII Telangana suggested state govt. to establish dedicated ministry on skill development

Hyderabad : Even as various industries are setting up shops in Telangana, one of the major constraints has the low availability of skilled workforce. And as the State prepares itself to launch a skill development policy, the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) -Telangana chapter is requesting the government to set up a separate ministry for the same.

“The sectors like manufacturing, IT and others are seeing growth but one of the major challenges is availability of skill. Thus looking at this scenario in addition to requesting the government to launch the skill development policy, we are also requesting them to set up a separate ministry of skill development which will encompass all the sectors,” said V Rajanna, Chairman, CII Telangana.

As part of the skill development initiative, CII is also looking at setting up a panel which will be headed by Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge CEO Sujiv Nair.

In addition, the bridge the employability gap, CII is also looking at engaging with education leadership and administration so as to not only train students but also faculty for the particular skillset.

Charting out the theme for the financial year 2017-18, the industry body said it wants to focus on re-imagining and building Telangana. As part of the theme it will focus on six areas of growth that include – Ease of Doing Business in Telangana, Skill Development, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Exposure to Global and Domestic Markets, Tier 2 cities and Sustainable Practices.

Development Centers

In order to provide impetus to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), CII is also proposing to set up Technology Development Center (TDC) for Robotics/Automation. In addition, it is also looking at TDC for Additive Manufacturing.

“The MSME sector constitutes about 80 percent of our membership, yet they are lagging behind in adoption of emerging technology. For this purpose, we are planning common research and development, testing centers for them so as to create awareness,” said Rajanna.
