Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the Uttar Pradesh Artificial Intelligence Mission (UP-AIM) to promote artificial intelligence (AI)-driven innovation, strengthen digital infrastructure and expand the adoption of AI across government departments, businesses and key economic sectors.

The mission aims to support at least 100 AI startups, provide AI-related training to five lakh youth and establish an integrated ecosystem for research, entrepreneurship and skill development across the state. It also proposes setting up District AI Kendras across all 75 districts to connect local challenges with technology, skilled professionals and innovation opportunities.

Five Lakh Youth to Receive AI-Related Skill Training

Skill development is a central pillar of the Uttar Pradesh AI Mission. The state aims to train at least five lakh young people in AI-related skills and enable 50,000 professionals to apply AI in practical work settings.

The proposed District AI Kendras will be established across all 75 districts to promote local innovation, facilitate access to technology and help address region-specific challenges. The government also plans to deploy Chief Minister’s AI Fellows to identify local problems and explore technology-based solutions.

These measures are intended to strengthen AI capabilities among young people and working professionals while expanding opportunities for skill development, employability and technology-led entrepreneurship.

Support for AI Startups, MSMEs and ODOP Businesses

UP-AIM seeks to strengthen the state’s AI innovation ecosystem by supporting startups through mentorship, funding opportunities, pilot projects and market access.

The mission also aims to encourage the adoption of AI among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including businesses associated with the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative.

By facilitating access to AI-based tools and applications, the initiative intends to help businesses improve their innovation capabilities, explore new solutions and participate in technology-led economic growth.

Focus on Inclusive and Responsible AI-Led Development

Commenting on the initiative in a LinkedIn post, Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, IT & Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh, said the mission seeks to build a state where AI strengthens public institutions, empowers citizens, supports entrepreneurs and broadens access to opportunities.

With its focus on AI infrastructure, workforce training, startup support and public-sector applications, the Uttar Pradesh Artificial Intelligence Mission seeks to establish a coordinated approach to AI adoption across the state.

The mission’s implementation will be important in translating these objectives into measurable outcomes for youth, government departments, entrepreneurs and businesses across Uttar Pradesh.
