Dehradun : In line with the Delhi Police’s ‘Project Yuva’, the Uttarakhand Police department will soon launch skill development training for unemployed youths in the state.
The initiative, under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), aims to empower youths by upgrading their skills and helping them secure better livelihoods. The state police has also teamed up with the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) for the project that is likely to begin in March.
Initially, four centres will be set up in the two hills districts of Pauri and Almora where free-of-cost training will be provided. In Pauri, centres would be set up at Kotdwar and Srinagar, while youth in Almora district will be able to get training at Ranikhet and Almora city.
Ashok Kumar, additional general of police (ADG), law and order, said, “One of our primary aims is also to steer unemployed youths away from crime. Training will be of 60-90 days in hospitality, tour guide, automobile and driving course, mobile and computer repair work and data entry.”
Police stations have been tasked to identify interested youths with the help of gram sabhas and local representatives. The centres will be opened in the premises of schools and colleges. Training will also include soft skills, personal grooming and behavioural change.
