New Delhi : Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) face limited opportunities to learning, skilling and employment due to accessibility issues and face isolation. Skills for Persons with Disability is a very important component under DFID Skills for Jobs programme. Department for International Development (DFID)-UK government and Skill Council for Persons with Disability (SCPwD) with experts from National Star College, United Kingdom organized a 4 day pilot Top- Up Training of Trainers (ToTs) programme for Visual Disability at India International Center at Delhi. The ToT also covered aspects related to Assistive Technologies and demonstrated various online and offline tools for PwDs. Participants were from various PwD training providers, PwD employers and practitioners who came from Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.After the four day training, 17qualified trainers received joint certificate awarded by SCPwD and National Star College-UK. Certificates were distributed by Mr. Jaikant Singh- NSDC, Dr. Niharika Nigam- SCPwD and Ms. Kaustubhi Harit-DFID.
Mr. Gavin McGillivary, Head DFID India Office came to observe the ongoing session and interacted with the trainees and trainers. He highlighted about the role of DFID initiatives in India and importance of PwD skilling and employment.A top- up Training of Master Trainers (ToMT) Integrated is planned on 8th& 9th February 2019 at Delhi and a similar top –up Training of Trainer for Intellectual Disability trainers is planned at Kolkata on 11th, 12th , 13th and 14th February 2019 at NIEPID Regional Center.
