IGNOU offering 6 courses “Free of Cost” to SC/ST students, free application and 50% fee waiver to BPL youth from rural India

New Delhi : Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU), Dr. Donepudi Ramanjaneya Sarma, who is one of the directors revealed that the varsity has been offering six programmes to SC/ ST and backward class students free of cost.

Dr. Sarma also specified that the varsity has been extending 50 per cent fee waiver to students of rural areas who come under Below Poverty Line (BPL) category for the following agricultural programmes, Diploma in Watershed Management, Diploma in Value Added Projects of Fruits and Vegetables and Diploma in Dairy Technology.

Furthermore, the applications to these programmes will be provided free of cost for the candidates who come under BPL category.

Dr. Sarma is also the Regional Director of IGNOU in Andhra Pradesh. Explaining about the special programme for Anganwadi workers, he pointed that most of the Anganwadi workers in the state are unable to pursue the course due to financial problems. He therefore requested the state government to support Anganwadi workers in taking up the course. The special programme for Anganwadi workers is beneficial for their profession.

With an objective to develop skills among the students in various fields, IGNOU has been offering various skill development programmes through distance mode.

Stimulatingly, IGNOU is also offering a course for police personnel, i.e., Certificate course in Anti-Human Trafficking.

Dr. Sarma advised the rural students to utilize this opportunity and develop skills through various skill development programmes offered by the varsity. Currently, the admissions are open for July 2017 session.
