Edumedha hosts historic first career and skill fair for underprivileged youth

Edumedha, a social initiative by JIMS, marked a significant milestone by organizing its inaugural Career and Skill Fair, themed “Nurturing Young, Empowering Youth, Sustaining Futures,” for underprivileged children residing in various Child Care Institutions.

This groundbreaking event took place at JIMS Technical Campus in Rohini Sector-5, bringing together 25 Child Care Institutions and over 400 students from classes 9th to 12th on January 5, 2024.

The primary objective of this Mega Career and Skill Fair was to guide and inspire children facing adversities, such as those who are orphaned, abandoned, poor, in need of care and protection, or lacking parental support, towards their academic journeys and future careers.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Krishan Kumar, IAS, Director Women and Child Development Department, Delhi, the honorable chief guest, who emphasized the importance of education and career guidance. Mr. Navlendra Kumar, Additional Director, WCD, was the guest of honor.

The day began at 9 am with registration and a hearty breakfast for all participants and guests. Mr. Krishan Kumar inaugurated the event, presenting Achiever’s Awards to students who overcame challenges in Child Care Institutions, serving as inspirational figures.

Following the awards, Dr. Anupama Saxena, Principal of Gargi School, conducted a motivational session, reshaping students’ perspectives towards a brighter future. Session-2 featured a panel discussion on career guidance with Capt. Ashok Dutta covering government jobs, Dr. R.P Kathuria addressing technical and non-technical courses, Dr. Sheetal Chadda sharing insights on degree courses, and Mr. Ashish Jha providing information on scholarships.

Session-3 focused on unlocking career excellence through industry-driven skill training courses, featuring panelists from various companies, including Varalakshami Foundation, Tech Mahindra Foundation, Bosch India Foundation, Sudhir Foundation, ICICI Foundation, Taj Hotel, and Haldiram Skill Academy. Ms. Kalpana Singh, Head CSR JIMS, moderated the session.

A networking lunch provided an opportunity for interaction, and the event concluded with Session-4, featuring one-on-one course counseling at stalls by field experts. The second part involved a stream guidance session for 9th and 10th graders, led by Ms. Ruchika, Principal of M.R Global School, assisting students in aligning their academic choices with their passions and interests.

The Mega Career & Skill Fair successfully provided valuable insights and guidance to underprivileged students residing in Child Care Institutions, fostering a sense of empowerment and motivation for their future endeavors.
