Software development the most sought-after skill in South Africa

The latest CareerJunction Index (CJI) report shows that software development, financial and project accounting, and middle management are the most-wanted skills in South Africa. The CJI is based on data gathered from the CareerJunction website and monitors the online labor market in South Africa by examining supply and demand trends.

“Software Development remains the most sought-after skill set on CareerJunction, where over 25,000 jobs are posted monthly,” the report states.

The IT industry has seen a growth in job postings of nearly 30% over the last quarter, with C# and .Net skills at the forefront of market demand. Financial and project accounting skills are also in high demand, with jobs in this sector increasing by more than 30% compared to last year.

Qualified managers are also sought after, especially Operations Managers, Production Managers, Finance Managers, Sales Managers, and General Managers.

IT and Telecommunications Jobs

The CJI report shows a high demand for IT professionals in 2016, despite a slight decline over the last two months. Hiring activity has slowed within the Engineering and Telecoms industries during the last running quarter.
