Ministry of Skills soon to announce Indian Skill Development Service (ISDS) under UPSC : Anantha Kumar Hegde

Bengaluru : To identify skills and provide advanced training to youth, the Centre would soon start an all India service — Indian Skill Development Service (ISDS) — close on the lines of other all India services under Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Soon, a formal announcement would be made in this regard, said Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and MP from Uttara Kannada Ananth Kumar Hegde said on Saturday.

Taking part in a felicitation programme organized in Bengaluru on Saturday, the newly inducted minister said, “While India has no dearth of talent, there has been a shortage of trainers. Hence, whosoever wants to train such talent will be enrolled under ISDS. Further, on Monday, the Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding with countries like Germany, Japan and Belarus for imparting training and recruitment of skilled labourers. In a few days, a national level institute to train skill trainers—National Skill Trainers Training Institute will be set up in Bengaluru in collaboration with Japan.”

Setting a deadline of one year to accomplish a major task, Hegde said, “Just a few days ago, I told all department officials that I neither take any leave nor leave on holiday. I have a deadline of one year until September 2018 to deliver on our government promises. By the end of the year, I will tell people what I have done.”

Hegde also said that they would work in the direction of recognizing skills of labourers and provide them with certificates from reputed universities.

Stressing on the need for evolving new skills in advanced technology, Hegde said, “We need to match international standards of skill requirement. Hence there is an urgent need to identify new skill domains in the field of nano-technology and agriculture. Phyto-chemical pharmaceutical is fast emerging and replacing chemical pharmaceuticals and we will launch skill development programme in such new areas as well.”
