Denmark-based Maersk Training mandated to provide skill development training to 10,000 people in Logistic Sector

Denmark-based Maersk Training, which is betting on the Indian training centre, has extended a helping hand by asking it to tap into the global pool of trainers to offer high end and niche courses in oil and gas sector.

Maersk Training Chief Executive Officer, Claus Bihl said: “We are ready to provide them a helping hand so that they can tap into global talent pool of trainers to get information, knowledge and content to offer high end and niche courses in oil and gas sector.”

Mr. Bihl is in India to oversee the Indian operations and to inaugurate Mumbai offshore training centre. “The Indian centre also takes care of training needs of those in maritime and oil and gas sectors in Malaysia and Philippines. We will be opening an offshore training centre in Kuala Lumpur soon.”

Chennai-based Maersk Training India Pvt. Ltd., which has been mandated to provide training to 10,000 people, has recently received certification from the Logistics Skill Council. Maersk Training is part of the Denmark-based A.P. Moller-Maersk group. It will provide a day’s training in ‘documentation in shipping’ and ‘handling dangerous goods courses’.

“We received approval from Logistics Skill Council of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for starting documentation in shipping course. The training course will commence from August 22. Each batch will have 30 students, Maersk Training India Managing Director said Capt. Satya Mitra Bagga.

“This is the first time we have joined hands with Logistics Skills Council, which comes under the National Skill Development Corporation. With the implementation of Central Government’s Sagar Mala project, we have a very big opportunity to provide training in maritime and logistics sector,” Mr. Bagga said.

“The Centre has announced modernization and development of ports, terminals and container freight stations under Sagar Mala project. This in turn will increase the demand for trained manpower. We are in the niche segment and have capability and expertise to fulfil it,” Mr. Bagga said.

Maersk Training provides simulator based training in oil and gas, offshore crane operations, safety and security. Since 2006, Maersk Training has trained over 15,000 candidates in over 50 courses.

The list includes oil drilling courses certified by International Well Control Forum and International Association of Drilling Contractors, surviving piracy and armed robbery course, personal and professional assessment course and behavioural safety course among others. Behavioural safety is the most sought after course for the manufacturing units and heavy industries.
