Rs 92.53 lakh sanctioned to PGI for ‘National Emergency Skill Centre’, would have skill stations to impart skills

The PGI is all set to get a National Emergency Skill Centre soon. It has already received a grant of Rs 92.53 lakh and has initiated work on the project.

PS Saini, Superintending Hospital Engineer (SHE), head of the Engineering Department, PGI, said the work for the construction of the centre had been allotted on November 18 last year and it was being carried out on a war footing.

Saini further said the centre, under construction on the top floor of the Advanced Paediatric Centre (APC), would have skill stations to impart skills on life-saving interventions.

“The major aim is to train doctors, nurses and paramedics working in emergency departments of the hospital. All categories of staff will be trained under the National Emergency Life Support Courses,” said the SHE.

“The skill centre will replace multitude of courses like Advanced Trauma Life Support Course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course and Advanced Pediatric Life Support Course, which are copyright courses of foreign organizations,” Saini informed. The development of the skill centre is part of Union Government’s Make in India programme.

The grant-in-aid project on the Human Resource Development for Emergency Medical Services that commenced in 2015-16 is an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The PGI is one of the 86 central government hospitals, medical colleges, district and sub-district hospitals in India chosen by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to set up the skill centre. The PGI has taken a lead in the country by initiating the work on the project.
