40 crore people to be trained to be self reliant

Under its skill development initiative, the Northern Railways Ambala division has identified a training centre in Panchkula that will be used to hone skills of the department employees and unemployed youth. The training centre has been identified within the residential area of the railway colony. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(MSDE) will provide certified trainers, who will educate the employees and unemployed youth about soft skills and personality development. Meanwhile, the Ambala division has also collaborated with Chitkara University, Chandigarh unit, to offer special skill development training to its employees. Mr. Dinesh Kumar, Divisional Railways Manager (DRM), Ambala division, said, “Chitkara University will assist us in providing soft skills to our employees. The initiative has been taken to help them improve their communication – and the overall behavior while dealing with passengers. Their wards can also avail the facility, which will help them during job interviews.”

He added, the project is funded by the ministry and is going to be started in January and so, Chitkara University will offer this three-month course on skill development for free so that maximum people can avail of the facility.” The initiative has been taken to train the employees especially who deal with passengers on everyday-basis, so it will indirectly help passengers too. The Indian Railways and the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship had earlier signed a pact to provide space and manpower to carry out skill development programmes across the country.

The main aim of the programme is to provide skills training to over 40 crore unemployed people across the country to further help them become economically self-reliant and productive.
