Reviewing the functioning of Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) and the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT) on Friday in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed DECT to start the classes at ITI for Divyang at Barbarua, Dibrugarh from December 3 next.
December 3 coincides with International Day of Disabled Persons.
He further said that the first ITI for Divyangs in India at Barbarua would be a shining example.
The CM also stressed the need for imparting soft skills to the youths of Assam along with other skills.
“Lack of liaisoning skills has hampered the career prospects of the state’s youth as they face problems in acquiring necessary finances for starting their business after skill training,” Sonowal said.
“Ability to express oneself adequately and in a convincing manner is an important trait in finding better opportunities in life,” Sonowal asserted.

Emphasising on the importance of ensuring the dignity of labour for skilled workers, Sonowal said that unless respect was not given to skilled workers than youth would not come forward to receive skill training.
He also said that farmers needed to be given respect for bringing agricultural development in the state.
The CM also suggested changing of nomenclature of skilled jobs to make them appealing for the youth.
Sonowal, asking the ASDM to aggressively target finding placement for 2 lakh skilled youths by 20, directed for renovating the Employment Exchanges in the state to make them appealing to the youth.
