Ludhiana : British Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Ayre visited the Multi-Skill Development Centre near ITI, Gill chowk. The visit was to take stock of the facilities and infrastructure available at the centre.
Sandeep Kaura, Skill Adviser, Punjab, said: “Ayre had come as the state government has collaborated with the British High Commission to impart international-level professional training through development centers in the state. This is to make the youth eligible for employment in the country and overseas.”
Ayre said there had always been a shortage of skilled workforce in developed countries, and if the youth here was equipped with international-level skills, they could bridge the gap. Not only would they get exposure, but could have several opportunities overseas. He said the British High Commission had assured the state government that it would give all-possible help to raise the level of skilled education in the state.
Apart from Ludhiana, Multi-Skill Development Centers are being run in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Bathinda.
Ayre said professional courses would be started at Ludhiana first and the same training would be imparted in other centres later. He said certificates would be given to students who complete the courses.
Kaura said more than 1,500 travel-cum-recruitment agencies were currently operating in India. He said the British High Commission had agreed to extend cooperation. With the success of the project, young people would be able to get international professional skills at a very low fee, increasing their opportunities to go abroad.
