One of the most backward regions in Hoshiarpur district is Kandi, that has received an approval to set up a government polytechnic institute. The proposal was approved by the governing body of All India Technical Education.
The infrastructure of the college is more or less completed and now, the faculty recruitment is in process. The college is located in Talwara, an area under Mukerian Sub Division. But after the construction of this institute, people in this area would easily avail technical education that too closer to their homes. There will be no more travelling to neighboring districts. Earlier, people had to travel as far as 80 km, from Kandi to Hoshiarpur, for academic purposes.
The institute will offer five courses namely Computer Engineering, Electronics and communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Each course will offer upto 60 seats. The final proceedings for admission and addition of courses will be finalized after the declaration of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 Board results.
The initiative of the technical university in this area, which is as backward as Kandi, is rather progressive and is likely to invite more such initiatives in the coming time.
