International-standard Skill Development and Management University with training centre to be set up with world class facilities: Nitin Gadkari

Nagpur: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday announced setting up of an international-standard Skill Development and Management University along with training centre on sprawling 100 acres adjacent to proposed SAI Regional Centre at Wathoda. He said the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will set up the university. The centre and it is ready with expression of interest (EOI).

Addressing the bhoomipuja ceremony of SAI Regional Centre at Kalamna, Gadkari said the Skill Development and Management University will be set up this year itself. “Students from the city and Vidarbha go to Mumbai, Pune and other cities for skill development and management studies and training. The university and the centre will offer world class facilities to them here itself. Plan is to start courses like MBA, DBM etc. Project will bring investment of around Rs250-300 crore and benefit over 10,000 youths,” he said.

Gadkari added that L&T too has proposed to set up skill development training centre in the city. “The company had submitted application with the NMC seeking six acres adjacent to the proposed university. I hope mayor Pravin Datke and NMC will take it positively,” he said. “Over 50,000 jobs will be created with many industries lined up at Mihan, he added.

Datke said that NMC too has written to the central government requesting to set up nation’s first Skill Development University here. “At the same time we are also planning to float EOI inviting educational institutions etc for setting up the university and the centre,” he said. Municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar said reservation of land has been changed from sewage disposal scheme to Skill Development and Management Centre.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said projects like Skill Development University, SAI regional centre etc will help in changing social life of the city.
