Ranchi : As a first step towards its ambitious project of churning out a skilled workforce, the state government signed a memorandum with a number of ‘service providers’ on Monday, setting a target of training 20 lakh youths in the next five years under Saksham Jharkhand Skill Development programme.
Chief minister Raghubar Das, on the occasion, said, “Jharkhand has a lot of potentials and hidden talents. We can polish their skills and make them capable of self-employment.”
Directing the selected companies to start working immediately, the CM said, “Skill development will help reduce the twin problems of unemployment and migration in the state. It is not possible to provide jobs to all but we can, at least, make people skilled and self-employed.”
As many as 42 companies have been roped in for the first phase and a deal has been signed. Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society is the implementing agency for the programme. The companies will start their training sessions in every district of the state. Higher and technical education and skill development department secretary Ajay Kumar Singh said, “The companies have been given a target of providing 70% placement. In the first phase, we aim to train 50,000 men this year.”
He added, “The request for proposal (RFP) for the second phase will be floated soon, for setting up mega training centres.”
This apart, Monday’s event was marked by the inauguration of CISCO Networking Academy that will provide international-level technical training in 50 degree and polytechnic colleges across the state.
Singh said, “At least 100 students from each of the colleges would be provided training in Internet, cyber security and other components by CISCO. The CISCO experts will train two instructors from each college, who, in turn, will teach the students. CISCO is an international company and the students will be trained following a global module.”
The government wants villagers to become entrepreneurs. Physically challenged children will be trained to be self dependent. In the coming time, the state will witness huge investment. These companies will require quality manpower which we will supply,” he said.
