CEFC inaugurated for skill development and training for heavy engineering industries

State’s first Common Engineering Facility Center (CEFC) was inaugurated today at the National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT), Ranchi to enable skill development and training in manufacturing of raw materials, critical components, equipment of heavy engineering industries in Defence, Nuclear, Power, Steel, Aerospace and other sectors in India.

Joint Secretary, Department of Heavy Industries, Government of India, N Shivanand was the chief guest on the occasion accompanied by Secretary, Higher, Technical Education and Skill Development department, Ajoy Kumar Singh as the guest of honour on Wednesday. Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University, RK Pandey, Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) Ltd, Ranchi, Avijit Ghosh, Head of CNIITMASH, VV Lurye, and various other officials were also present there. Scientists and experts from CNIITMASH have designed specialized courses to suit the Indian Industries and its environment. CNIITMASH experts would be the lead trainers till the time the indigenous faculties are developed.

CEFC is a part of Make in India and Skilling India initiative by the Government of India and plays a vital role towards creating the highest level training facilities for skill development in manufacturing of raw materials, critical components/ equipment of heavy engineering industries in Defence, Nuclear, Power, Steel, Aerospace and other sectors in India.

“HEC initiated an effort, under the request made by DHI, to bridge the gap between big and small industries and thus, CEFC Pratham Foundation was created”, said Dr. P. P. Chattopadhyay. The first class for the programme was conducted on Wednesday, with students from all over the country and world. After the students finish the course, they will be given a certificate from CEFC.

While talking about skill development, the HEC CMD said “I strongly believe, if you want to compete in the global market, your product should be at par with it and that is what we are aiming at doing in the program.” The course was designed with the help of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur and NIFFT, Ranchi.

CEFC has been established with certain objectives in mind, the most important of them being – to reduce the gap in skill development between small and big industries and sustaining the program. There is a need for reviewing the syllabus and upgrading the technology regularly so that education can be at par with the latest developments.

“There is a need for separate skill development program due to the lack of advanced educations in colleges and universities”, said Ajoy Kumar Singh while addressing the audience. The freshly graduated students have basic knowledge about the technologies used in the industries, which turns out to be a problem for them while working with heavy machinery. With the help of this program, it will help them get a broader idea about their field of work, he said.
