Thoothukudi : Despite having key resources including power, manpower, water and land required for the industrial growth at micro level, Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi lacks a skill development centre (SDC), said the MSMEs. With increasing industrial production, Thoothukudi has turned into a booming industrial town.
Despite having key resources including power, manpower, water and land, which cater to the growing needs of industrial growth at micro level, Thoothukudi requires a skill development centre, said P Raja Sankaralingam, President of All India Chamber of Commerce and Industries (AICCI), Thoothukudi.
The Chamber has submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister for Skill Development, Rajiv Pratap Rudy demanding a skill development centre in Thoothukudi. He said that lot of girls and boys were passing out of schools and colleges every year in different disciplines, but still they did not have enough skill to add value to the industries. He stressed that there is a dire need for skill enhancement with the proposed establishment of skill development centre. As the third largest seaport in India, Thoothukudi has facilitated several large and small scale industries ranging from Heavy Water Plant, thermal power generation plant, chemical-based industries, seafood companies and its processing units and salt industry. These industries required skilled manpower.
