Resolution passed to create separate Skill Development Department in Assam, will catalyze institutional mechanism and sustainable skill development

Majuli (Assam) : In a  move  to  foster skill landscape  in  Assam, the Assam Government has decided to establish a separate Skill Development department. Earlier, the Labour department was looking after employment generation in the State.

The decision was taken at a resolution passed in the cabinet meeting held at the conference hall of the SDO (Civil) office at Garamur in Majuli on Thursday. This is for the first time that a cabinet meeting has been held outside Dispur.

The new move is the implementation of the commitment made by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while meeting with NSDA Chief S. Ramadorai in month of June. The new department for skill development will work on the direction of creation of sustainable skill development”. The mandate of the new department will be to catalyze institutional mechanism targeted towards skill development. It will also create a sustainable support system required for skill development.The skilled manpower will then be productively absorbed in different avenues in and outside the state thereby giving a fillip to job climate in the country.

The Finance and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said a cultural university would be set up at Majuli while five more medical colleges would be established in Assam. He also said, we have to create opportunities for honing inherent skills of our youth. Skilled manpower will create a skilled and developed Assam.
