Rashtrapati Bhavan employees got Trained and Certified by NSDC led Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)

A total of 900 Rashtrapati Bhavan employees today got certified under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) across 18 job roles, as part of a programme being implemented by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

President Pranab Mukherjee met the employees who completed their training at Rashtrapati Bhavan here. In all, 1,500 employees of Rashtrapati Bhavan have been roped in for the undergoing training under the programme, out of which 900 completed their training and got certified. The job roles include gardeners, drivers, room attendants, housekeeping, electrical works, plumbers, carpenters, painters, security guards, office assistants, data entry operators, cooks and laundry men, among others.

“We are grateful to President Pranab Mukherjee for letting us conduct Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for the employees at his residence. We hope this will inspire many other organisations in government and industry to get skill certification of their workforce done,” Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process to evaluate skills and knowledge acquired outside the classroom for the purpose of recognising competencies against a given set of standards or learning outcomes. It is practiced for a variety of purposes, for example an individual’s standing in a profession, trade, qualifications, academic achievement, recruitment, performance management, career and succession planning.

The programme began on April 11 and will continue till May 31, 2016. Various Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) and affiliated Training Partners in the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) ecosystem are involved in the process. “It has been a very humbling exercise for us to train, induct and certify people under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) who have been working at Rashtrapati Bhawan, some of them for 20-30 years now, in their respective job roles,” NSDC CEO Jayant Krishna said.

PMKVY was introduced by the government in 2015. The scheme has a target to cover 24 lakh people with training of 14 lakh fresh entrants and certification of 10 lakh persons under RPL .
