Visakhapatnam: Unemployed youth of Kotaveedhi are getting benefitted from the CSR activities of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) by way of skill development.
The port conducted valedictory function on skill development programme under CSR activity in coordination with Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology in Government Queen Mary’s Girls School, Kota Veedhi, on Tuesday.
Chairman MT Krishnababu was the chief guest of the occasion. He said VPT has been conducting CSR activities for the benefit of residents of One Town area by imparting skills to the unemployed youth and women’s empowerment. Under skill development programme, unemployed youth were identified with the help of Gayatri Vidya Parishad and about 10 candidates were sponsored for welding technology in Global Technical Centre at a cost of 3.50 lakh and out of the 10 candidates, four candidates were selected for overseas employment.
Similarly, 46 women were trained in tailoring and sewing at a cost of Rs 2.76 lakh and all of them are now in a position to earn their livelihood. Around 20 candidates were sponsored for computer networking, hardware, MS office at a cost of Rs.1.60 lakh. “VPT has distributed notebooks and bags at a cost of Rs 6 lakh and during 2016-17” he further said.
