First Anniversary of Skill India to be celebrated at IIT Kanpur, Prime Minister Modi likely to attend the event

A four-day event to mark the first anniversary of ‘Skill India’ is expected to be held at IIT-Kanpur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the city on July 15 on the first anniversary of ‘Skill India’. On this day, the PM had launched this programme at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi last year.

During the event this year, a number of events like debates and seminars would be held. The celebrations will begin on July 12. The PM may visit the IIT-K. BJP MLA Satish Mahana said that the final programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit would come from the PMO. He said that as per the proposed programme, the PM is expected to come to city on July 15, the day on which he had launched ‘Skill India’ programme in Pragati Maidan in Delhi last year. Mahana said that the PM may also inaugurate an auditorium at IIT-K.

On Friday, JP Singh of Skill India Development Corporation visited the city and inspected the auditorium at IIT-Kanpur. The inspection report would be sent to Delhi from where the programme of PM would be finalised.

Skill India is aimed at honing the skills of the youth so that they become employable. Under the programme, a number of schemes such as National Skill Development Mission, Prime Minister Kaushal Vikas Yojana and Skill Loan Scheme are being run.

On July 15, International Skills Development Day would also be observed. Though the programme is to celebrate the first anniversary of Skill India, but the event has been planned, keeping in view the state assembly elections scheduled to be held next year.
