New Delhi : CBSE and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) have announced the launch of a new competition for school students called Junior Skills Championship 2021. CBSE has invited applications from school students of classes 6 to 12 studying in schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Winners of the championship will receive cash prizes and certificates, and 21 winners will also get a chance to travel to the WorldSkills International competition, which is widely called the Olympic equivalent for skills competitions.
“Junior Skills 2021 has been envisioned in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020, wherein the emphasis has been laid on the integration of vocational courses into the school curricula,” says the official website. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the initial rounds will be conducted online, while the final round will be an on-ground event. Students will also be given access to industry experts who will guide them throughout Junior Skills Championship 2021.

Who can Apply for NSDC and CBSE Junior Skills Championship 2021, and for Which Category?
CBSE school students from classes 6 to 12 can apply for the championship as either individuals or from school. The competition has been divided into three groups namely Group 1 for classes 6 to 8, Group 2 for classes 9 to 10, and Group 3 for classes 11 to 12. The categories that have been assigned to the students are as follows:

Web technologies 2 and 3 Classes 9 to 12
IT software solutions for business 2 and 3 Classes 9 to 12
Visual merchandising 2 and 3 Classes 9 to 12
Graphic design 2 and 3 Classes 9 to 12
Fashion technology 2 and 3 Classes 9 to 12
Mobile robotics 2 and 3 Classes 9 to 12
Painting and decorating 1, 2 and 3 Classes 6 to 12
Solar energy 3 Classes 11 to 12
Innovative business ideas 2 and 3 Classes 9 to 12
Digital photography 1, 2 and 3 Classes 6 to 12
All participants should be in the selected class as on 14 January 2021, and will not be allowed to change their class for the purpose and duration of the Junior Skills championship, adds the official website.
How to Register for NSDC and CBSE Junior Skills Championship 2021?
Interested students need to register for the championship as either individuals or through their schools starting from 27 January 2021. The screening round will be held from 1 March 2021, and online training with subject matter experts will start from 9 March 2021 onwards. Students can also go through the resources available for free while preparing to submit their entries for the Junior Skills Championship 2021.
