CSIR-IICB Kolkata Invites Applications for Skill Development Courses to Empower Biomedical Graduates

Kolkata: CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (CSIR-IICB), renowned for its pioneering biomedical research, is opening its doors to aspiring graduates and postgraduates in the field of Chemical and Biological Sciences. Under the esteemed guidance of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), CSIR-IICB announces the commencement of applications for its skill development courses, aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry demands in India’s burgeoning biomedical sector.

Aligned with the national imperative of “Skill India,” CSIR-IICB launches the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative program, designed to equip unskilled graduates and postgraduates with the requisite expertise to contribute effectively to India’s workforce. These courses are tailored to empower participants with practical skills and certifications essential for success in the competitive landscape of biomedical research and development.

Key features of these programs include:

  • Scientific skill-enabled training for competency development with hands-on experience and certifications.
  • Training in state-of-the-art R&D laboratories under the mentorship of expert faculty members.
  • Comprehensive theoretical and practical sessions aligned with the course curriculum.
  • Small group sessions to ensure individual attention and personalized learning.
  • Evaluation based on both theoretical knowledge and practical proficiency.
  • Theoretical sessions conducted through webinars to facilitate remote learning.

The courses offered at CSIR-IICB encompass a wide spectrum of topics vital for biomedical applications:

  • Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Pathology Techniques
  • Advanced Bioinformatics
  • High-end equipment for clinical applications such as Flow Cytometry and Optical Microscopy Techniques in Separation (Organic molecules)
  • Instrumental Analysis including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry
  • Structural Biology techniques including X-Ray Crystallography for Proteins and Small Molecules
  • Molecular Biology techniques such as Cloning, Protein Expression, and Real-time RT-PCR
  • Advanced spectroscopic techniques including NMR Spectroscopy and Cryo-EM

The duration of training varies depending on the course, ranging from one to two weeks, excluding weekends. Eligibility criteria include holding a UG or PG degree in any branch of Science/Technology/Pharmacy as per the candidate’s chosen course. Additionally, applicants must have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine approved by the Government of India.

Applications for admission can be submitted online at https://iicb.res.in/sdp until 5 pm on 13th May 2024. Each applicant may submit up to three separate applications, with selection based on availability and eligibility. The selection list will be announced on 22nd May 2024, and selected candidates must complete the course fee payment via online bank transfer between 22nd May and 27th May 2024.

In the event of course cancellation due to low batch strength, enrolled candidates will receive timely refunds from the institute, ensuring transparency and accountability.
