Skill Development Program held for Farmers of Manipur

Imphal: The 7-day skill development programme aimed at enhancing livelihood security through various aquaculture technologies concluded successfully recently, at the Education Centre, CAU, Imphal. Professor Ph. Rampet Sharma, Director Extension, CAU, Imphal, graced the event as the chief guest, bringing his invaluable insights and support to the initiative. Joining him was Professor L Nabachandra Singh from the Department of Agronomy, COA, CAU, Imphal, who honored the occasion as the guest of honor, further emphasizing the academic community’s commitment to agricultural development.

Under the distinguished leadership of Indira Sarangthem, Director of Instruction, and LA, Deputy Dean of COA, CAU, Imphal, the valedictory function of the programme unfolded with a sense of achievement and promise. Their guidance and stewardship have been instrumental in steering this initiative towards its successful culmination.

Organized by the Multi-Technology Testing Centre and Vocational Training Centre (MTTC & VTC), COA, CAU, with generous funding from the Indian Institute of Oilseed Research (IIOR), Hyderabad, this programme exemplifies collaborative efforts towards fostering innovation and skill development in agriculture.

Dr. Gayatri Khanggarak Pam and Dr. Khumukcham Stina, the organizing secretaries, extended warm welcomes to all attendees and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the participating farmers for their unwavering dedication and enthusiasm. The programme, tailored especially for farmers, aimed to equip them with essential skills in various agricultural technologies to bolster their income and secure their livelihoods. Participants received training in a range of techniques including mushroom production, mushroom spawn preparation, composting, bee rearing, biofertilizer preparation, nursery management, candle making, budding of various fruits, grafting crops, flower propagation techniques, agro-tourism, and oilseed cultivation and extraction.

With its emphasis on practical knowledge and hands-on experience, the programme equips farmers with the tools and techniques necessary to enhance their income and secure their livelihoods. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation, it paves the way for sustainable agricultural practices and economic prosperity in the region.
