Jammu : The University of Jammu and Kashmir recently achieved the distinction of being ranked 64th among the top 100 universities and colleges in the country in “India Rankings 2016” released by Union human resource development minister Smriti Irani. Vice-chancellor RD Sharma has been flooded with congratulatory messages as this is the only university among Jammu and Kashmir’s seven others that has achieved this distinction.
On the Occasion, former Fulbright Professor of Business Administration spoke of the various initiatives that have been taken at the university for quality higher education. He stated that the university is in the process of introducing job-oriented courses. We are likely to offer skill development programmes in collaboration with Global Village Foundation, Concentrix Limited and Nasscom Foundation. He said, the groundwork has been done for introducing these skill development courses (SDCs) across identified standard skills by the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship (MSDE).
The programme will be certified by Nasscom Foundation and other partners. Students will be trained in a batch of 30 each for different programmes that will simultaneously run at different locations in Jammu region. There are 70 skill development programmes that will be offered under the Nasscom Foundation, Concentrix Limited and University of Jammu tie-up. We will be organising and bringing in job fairs and placement opportunities at the undergraduate level.
He further added that our university will focus on how to develop human resources and empower it with skill and knowledge. Therefore, our most important task for the next 10 years is to focus on quality teaching and infrastructure development.
