“Tribal Youth & Skill Development” – Skill Development Workshop organized by All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur (ATDUM)

Imphal : All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur (ATDUM) organized a one day skill development workshop on “Tribal Youth & Skill Development” at Manipur Press Club under the sponsorship of Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Manipur.

According to a statement, K Joychandra, Director of ICM was the resource person, and Sodirani Yumnam from Dewlahland presided the programme. In his welcome address and short speech, Momo Tantanga, president of ATDUM highlighted the importance and relevance of the workshop. He also lauded the role of TRI for organizing such workshops to promote the talent of tribal youths.

Resource person while speaking on the occasion, deliberated on the importance of engaging in different fields of entrepreneurship like poultry, piggery, fishery, etc. He mainly encouraged in farming horticulture crops and fruits in hill areas of the State.

Hill people can engage in farming of passion fruits, grapes, mango of different varieties, mushroom, pomegranate etc under different departments like Horticulture, Agriculture, Fishery, etc. He said that only 10% of hill population inquired and knew about different schemes at the offices of their districts; the rest has failed to enquire or has no knowledge of the schemes. As such, the offices and schemes remain useless for the masses, the farmers.

67 tribal youths and children participated in the workshop.
