Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched a specialised skill development initiative to train female students in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other advanced digital technologies.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Saturday between the State Higher Education Department and Edunet Foundation to equip women pursuing higher education with industry-relevant skills in Artificial Intelligence ( AI ), Data Science, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Python Programming, Data Analytics and related fields. Official sources said the programme will be implemented jointly by Edunet Foundation and Microsoft and will offer a comprehensive 240-hour training curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in the rapidly evolving technology sector.

A dedicated course titled “Career Opportunities for Women in Artificial Intelligence” will be introduced to help participants understand emerging career pathways and industry requirements. Students will also gain hands-on experience through technology-driven capstone projects, enabling them to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.

The initiative aims to train around 1,000 female students every year across colleges and universities in Odisha. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive certificates jointly issued by Edunet Foundation and Microsoft, adding significant value to their professional credentials.

The programme will further facilitate internship and employment opportunities, enhancing the career prospects of participating students.

Speaking on the occasion, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said the state government is giving priority to skill development and training in emerging technologies in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He said the partnership has been forged to ensure that female students in higher educational institutions acquire cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and allied technologies. He emphasized that the initiative is aimed not only at increasing women’s participation in the technology sector but also at improving their employability, enhancing career opportunities, and preparing them to contribute effectively to the digital economy.
