Thiruvalluvar University to set up skill development institute

Vellore (Tamil Nadu) : Thiruvalluvar University has signed an MoU with NIM Care, Chennai, to establish the TUNE Skill Development and Life Sciences Research Institute at the university. This institute would develop community engagement programmes for the university’s faculty members and students.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor K. Murugan signed the agreement with Vijay G. Prabhakar, chairman of NIM Care recently, a press release said. The institute would cater to the educational needs of 1,50,000 undergraduates, 50,000 post-graduates and 10,000 research fellows. He said that women and tribal children would be the major beneficiaries of the institute’s efforts. Mr. Prabhakar said that the institute’s main objectives included collaborative efforts to enhance the research activities of the faculty of Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Economics, Tamil and English departments.
