Vijaywada (Andhra Pradesh) : The State government is on a mission to revive polytechnic education and planning to bring it to shape by the next academic year. Inaugurating the Industry-Institute Interaction on Polytechnic Curriculum Updation here on Monday, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas emphasized on the need for skill development and updation of curriculum in polytechnic education.
The ITI and polytechnic education lost the charm over the years due to which almost 30,000 seats are lying vacant in colleges now. Against this backdrop, hands-on training and practical education must be given to students, to meet the industry standards, he felt.
The industries are not finding suitable employees and several opportunities are open for them.
Hence, technical education, communication skills, Internet of Things, mobile communications and cyber skills should be included in the polytechnic curriculum, he added. IT Minister Palle Raghunath Reddy thanked Ganta Srinivas for organizing an interactive session, which would be a platform for the discussion of industry and education-related challenges.
He also asked the industrial representatives to offer a six-month industrial training for students and help them achieve hands-on experience. Komati Jayaram, Special Representative of Government of Andhra Pradesh for North America, assured to help provide 81 digital classrooms in the polytechnic colleges across the State. The people of the State are highly thoughtful and talented, but in need of a right platform to showcase their skills, he opined.
