Haryana Govt. to provide on-job training to 15,000 youth by January 31 : Chief Secretary

Chandigarh : Haryana government will engage about 15,000 trade apprentices under Apprentices Act in all government departments, boards and corporations by January 31 next year.

This was stated in a review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary D S Dhesi regarding engagement of apprentices under Apprentices Act 1961 here on Wednesday.

This move will also help to produce skill manpower required for industrial growth as well.

Mr Dhesi said that skill development of unemployed youth is the key purpose of the scheme under which the departments, boards and corporations were required to engage minimum 2.5 per cent and maximum up to 10 per cent apprentices of the total strength as per the Act.

He also directed the officers to notify nodal officers in their department concerned for implementation of the provisions of the Act.

The Chief Secretary also reviewed the action plan of Government departments, boards, corporations and universities for engagement of apprentices under the Act.

Principal Secretary, Skill Development and Industrial Training Department, TC Gupta informed that during the current financial year, a budget provision of Rs 31.64 crore had been provided to the Skill Development and Industrial Training department for payment of stipend to the apprentices engaged by various departments.

He also urged the officers to explore the areas for engagement of maximum trade apprentices in their departments.

Under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, the Centre would reimburse 25 per cent of the prescribed stipend subject to a maximum of Rs 1500 per month per apprentice to the employer, he added.

Among the others present at the meeting included Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, Registrar of Universities and other senior officers of different departments.
